After a triple bypass in 2000, my cardiac specialist prescribed Lipitor. I have been taking this now for five years. In the past few years I have been suffering from muscle pain and weakness. This was mainly in my leg. I could not sleep properly due to aches and pains. I initially put this down to my new job as I had to spend all my time on my feet as a sales assistant. A pedometer showed me walking anything up to 14km per day.
I then started to hear the side effects of Statins so started to do some research into this. From here a decided to consult my pharmacist about this and what could be done about CoQ10 depletion. My pharmacist at Calanna Pharmacy recommended I start taking a supplement of CoQ10 and within two weeks I had noticed a marked improvement in my pain. The weakness will now have to be recovered though rehabilitation I feel.
I have since written to my GP and specialist and requested we review my medication. In the meantime I am of the opinion that using statins without considering a taking supplement of CoQ10 is not in my best interests.
