Health Care for Diabetics
Diabetes (diabetes mellitus) is an ailment that occurs when the Pancreas is unable to secrete enough insulin to maintain a normal blood sugar (Glucose) level which leads to high Blood Sugar Levels. If a persons Blood Sugar concentration is greater than or equal to 7.0mmol/l, after an overnight fast, they could be regarded as having Diabetes.
There are three types of Diabetes; Type 1, Type 2 & Gestational. Approximately 6% of the population of the Western world is afflicted with one of the forms. Let’s now look more closely at both, Type 1 & Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus.
Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus
In Type 1 Diabetes, the pancreas produces no insulin or poor quality insulin because the cells which make insulin have been destroyed by the immune system, hence it is classified as an Autoimmune Disease. People with Type 1 diabetes require insulin injections to control their blood glucose levels. Type 1 usually manifests during childhood, and 5% - 12% of diabetics are diagnosed with type 1.
Type 1 - Prevention/Control
S Omega 3 Fatty Acids may prevent type 1
S Minerals such as;
Chromium – lowers elevated Serum triglycerides
Zinc – is often deficient in Type 1 and may lower elevated
S Coenzyme Q10 – May improve circulation
S Vitamins B3,C,D & E
